Federal Student Aid has Stopped Accepting Applications for Forgiveness

A Texas court ruled Thursday evening that the Biden Administration’s one-time student loan forgiveness program is unconstitutional.

Friday morning, studentaid.gov posted this message:

Student Loan Debt Relief Is Blocked

Courts have issued orders blocking our student debt relief program. As a result, at this time, we are not accepting applications. We are seeking to overturn those orders. If you’ve already applied, we’ll hold your application.

The Justice Department is appealing the decision, however, Biden’s forgiveness plan has faced numerous court challenges from GOP-led states.

Over 26 million applications have already been submitted. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates. Applicants are told to sit and wait while the attempts to overturn the decision play out.
