Health care professionals who treat drug addiction in shortage areas or in counties where the drug overdose rate is above average may qualify for repayment assistance from the Federal government.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and is overseeing the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) program as a way to recruit more health care workers into areas of substance-use-treatment to fight the opioid epidemic.

According to HHS, “Clinicians accepted to the program may receive up to $75,000 in forgiveness for three years of full-time service at approved substance use disorder health care facilities.”

Applications are being accepted through February 21. To find out more information or to apply, visit the National Health Service Corps website. There will be a live chat tomorrow on Facebook about the application process.
