An Unexpected Burden: Survey Report.

Student Loans and Their Impact on Americans Over 35

Older Americans make up the fastest growing age-segment of the student loan marketplace. Millennials are not the only generation bearing the student loan debt burden, Generation Xers and Baby Boomers struggle to pay back student loans as well.

IonTuition surveyed 909 U.S. adults over the age of 35 who have student loans or have co-signed for student loans. We set out to determine if older workers are facing the same student loan problems as recent graduates.

We found that:

Three quarters did not expect to be repaying student loans at this stage of their lives.

57% feel student loans are getting in the way of their retirement.

76% agree that employers should provide student loan management resources.
